Ancient Olfactory Schwannoma - Case Report and Literature Review.

چکیده
Intracranial schwannomas are benign tumors that arise from Schwann cells. Since it is well known that optic and olfactory nerves do not have a Schwann cell sheath, schwannoma should not develop from these nerves. We report a very unusual case of a 73-year-old female who presented with generalized seizures and had radiological features of an intracranial aneurysm. Additional imaging showed an extracerebral mass 2.5 x 2.0 cm in size, which most likely corresponded to a meningioma. It was resected in total. Subsequent histological analysis revealed that the tumor was in fact ancient schwannoma WHO grade I. Only about 41 case of olfactory schwannoma have been reported in the literature. Olfactory groove schwannomas are extremely rare tumors, occurring less frequently than any other intracranial nerve schwannoma. As in this case, the schwannoma should be included in the differential diagnosis of the anterior cranial fossa tumor. Further research on the pathogenesis and the origin of olfactory groove schwannoma is needed.

Testicular schwannoma is a very rare benign scrotal tumor. It is a painless mass, but sometimes referred because of pain or sensory losses. Tumor markers are normal and radical orchidectomy is its best treatment. Here we present an unusual case of intrascrotal schwannoma in a 57 year old man, with a review of the literature.

Ancient schwannoma is an uncommon variant of schwannoma, a benign tumor arising from the nerve sheath. It is reported to arise from any nerves except optic and olfactory. However, only six cases of ancient schwannomas arising from ansa cervicalis nerve have been reported to date in English literature. Proper preoperative evaluation is necessary to rule out other causes of neck mass such as thyr...

Schwannoma(neurilemmoma) is a benign tumor originates from Schwann cells. Ancient (degenerated) schwannoma is a long-standing schwannoma with degenerative changes. Head and neck region is one of the most common sites for nerve sheath tumors but intraosseous schwannoma is rare. The mandible is the most common site of occurrence for this lesion. We report a rare case of intraosseous ancient sc...

Ancient schwannoma rarely occurs in the oral cavity. Reviewing the literature, only six intra-oral cases of ancient schwannoma have been reported in the English-language medical literature. Here we present an intra-oral ancient schwannoma in a male patient with, to our knowledge, the longest reported duration: 18 years. In addition, a brief review of the pertinent literature is included. c 2006...
